ELEMENTOS EXISTENCIALISTAS EN “LA AUTOPISTA DEL SUR” DE JULIO CORTÁZAR

Resumen

Si bien la corriente de pensamiento existencialista surgió en Europa en el periodo entre guerras, esto no ha sido una limitante para que permee en la producción literaria de años posteriores y de otras regiones, pues buena parte de sus postulados y temáticas han sido compartidas por escritores que han visto al existencialismo como una manera de retomar los problemas que enfrenta el hombre contemporáneo: la angustia de su existencia, la muerte y el sinsentido que muchas veces tiene la vida.

Julio Cortázar, uno de los grandes escritores latinoamericanos, retoma elementos existencialistas en su cuento “La autopista del Sur”, donde los personajes se ven envueltos en situaciones absurdas y la desesperanza, enfrentándose a la angustia, la muerte, una serie de obstáculos y una vida que no cumple con sus expectativas, porque no premia sus esfuerzos

El ingeniero, uno de los personajes del cuento, adquiere los elementos que lo convierten en el héroe existencialista, ya que se enfrenta a los obstáculos que se le presentan, logra hacer frente al infortunio y cuando la felicidad está al alcance de su mano, ésta se escapa y le impide alcanzar la plenitud, como Sísifo, el personaje mítico analizado por Camus para exponer sus ideas existencialistas.

Abstract

Although the current of existentialist thought arose in Europe in the period between the wars, this has not been a limitation for it to permeate the literary production of later years and other regions, since a good part of its postulates and themes have been shared by writers who have seen existentialism as a way to resume the problems that contemporary man faces: the anguish of his existence, death and the nonsense that life often has.

Julio Cortázar, one of the great Latin American writers, takes up existentialist elements in his short story "La autopista del Sur", where the characters find themselves involved in absurd situations and hopelessness, facing anguish, death, a series of obstacles and a life that does not meet your expectations, because it does not reward your efforts

The engineer, one of the characters in the story, acquires the elements that make him the existentialist hero, since he faces the obstacles that are presented to him, he manages to face misfortune and when happiness is at his fingertips, it he escapes and prevents him from reaching fulfillment, like Sisyphus, the mythical character analyzed by Camus to expose his existentialist ideas.
