“The Pro-independent narrative in Mexico”

Abstract

A historical event is never an isolated fact, it is always influenced by many economic, social, cultural and artistic circumstances. This feature is the one that provokes that “Primera elegía sobre la primera guerra de Mesenia” and “Segunda elegía sobre la segunda Guerra de Mesenia”; with other texts from the same nature that were released few years before the Mexican Independence began. On these valuable writings for the Mexican literature, a critic was done about the social and economic inequality that the colony experienced and consequently an isolated identity of the European arose, allowing the pro-independent thinking of the New Spain.
